Debut collection from Eric Schaller

Press release

Toronto, Canada, July 1, 2015 — ‘Meet Me in the Middle of the Air,’ Eric Schaller’s debut collection, is forthcoming from Undertow Publications, March 2016.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Michael at Undertow,” Schaller said. “Undertow has become a true destination for lovers of the short story. Michael produces some of the most beautiful books around and I can’t imagine a better home for ‘Meet Me in the Middle of the Air.’

Schaller’s fiction has appeared in The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror, Fantasy: Best of the Year, SciFiction, Postscripts, Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, Polyphony, New Genre, Shadows & Tall Trees, and others.

“I’m truly delighted to be able to publish Eric’s debut collection,” Kelly said. “Eric has been on my radar ever since I read his brilliant story ‘The Assistant to Doctor Jacob.’ I’m very pleased I’ll be able to share these outstanding stories with readers.”

Established in 2009 by writer Michael Kelly, Undertow Publications (UP) is home to the acclaimed weird journal Shadows & Tall Trees, as well as the Year’s Best Weird Fiction. (UP) and publisher/editor Kelly have been nominated multiple times for the Shirley Jackson Awards, and the British Fantasy Society Awards.

Eric Schaller teaches at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where he lives in a peach-colored house with his wife Paulette and a cairn terrier named Z. Schaller’s stories are influenced in part by his studies in the biological sciences, in their inspiration as well as the unease that originates in a world populated by many organisms—including humans—dependent on but also working at cross-purposes to each other. Schaller’s illustrations have appeared widely, and he is an editor, with Matthew Cheney, of the on-line magazine The Revelator.
